MESA
Colorado
Mathematics, Engineering and Science Achievement (MESA)
is a statewide program that
supports economically disadvantaged ethnic minority
and women students to pursue careers in
mathematics, science, engineering, technology and
related fields. This is accomplished by providing
tutoring,
mentoring, science demonstrations, awards and recognition.
MESA helps students prepare for a college education
and refers graduating high school seniors to collegiate
support systems offered by minority engineering programs
in Colorado Universities.
MESA
offers: Career Exploration, Field Trips, College Campus
Visits, Scholarship Information, Incentives, Enrichment
Programs, Leadership Training, and Academic Support.
Engaging students in science and
engineering activities opens the door for both study
and career opportunities in these disciplines. Students
from traditionally underrepresented ethnic and gender
groups are encouraged to participate at all
academic levels.
Student programs and competitions are accessed with
the cooperation of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory
(NREL), an education program within the U.S. Department
of Energy's premier R&D laboratory. NREL's Office
of Education Programs seeks to promote science, mathematics
and technology education
using renewable energy as the vehicle to capture student
interest.
